Three Generations
My grandfather immigrated from Marettimo, Sicily, to Monterey, California, in 1968 at the age of 25. Just a year later, he ventured to Alaska, drawn by the abundant sockeye salmon run in Bristol Bay. Inspired by his journey, both my father and I have followed in his footsteps, fishing the pristine waters of Alaska and making a living from the incredible resources nature has provided.
My grandfather's remarkable story captivated Sicily, catching the attention of a local filmmaker who decided to turn his life into a documentary. The film went on to earn widespread acclaim, winning prestigious awards such as Best Film at the Blue Ocean Film Festival and Best Documentary at the Sicilian Film Festival in Miami, Florida.
A Legacy of Wild-Caught Seafood
At M.I.F Seafood, we believe the best seafood comes from a deep connection to the ocean, sustainability, and a family tradition that spans generations. I, Joseph Bonanno, founded M.I.F Seafood to share the wild-caught, fresh seafood I grew up with. Raised in a family deeply rooted in the seafood industry, I spent much of my life surrounded by the bounty of the ocean. My father and grandfather worked in the industry, and I spent countless hours on boats, learning the importance of respecting the water and its resources.
A Family Tradition
My journey began in Alaska, where I was raised on fresh, wild-caught fish that my family caught and processed ourselves. We didn’t just catch seafood; we lived it. From preparing salmon and rockfish to fishing with my father, I learned early on the value of wild-caught fish and the need to preserve the health of our oceans. Today, M.I.F Seafood continues that tradition, offering the same quality and sustainability that my family has always stood for.
Sustainability at Our Core
At M.I.F Seafood, we’re committed to sourcing our products from the cold, pristine waters of Alaska. Just like our ancestors, we fish with sustainability in mind. Wild-caught salmon, halibut, shrimp, and rockfish are not just food—they’re part of a delicate ecosystem we must protect. We ensure that each catch is done responsibly, supporting the long-term health of our marine life and providing our customers with the highest quality, sustainably harvested seafood available.
Protecting Our Oceans and Ecosystems
We’re passionate about protecting wild fish populations and their habitats. While the seafood industry has been affected by practices like farmed fish and environmental threats, we stand strong in our commitment to providing clean, wild-caught fish. We believe that with the right practices, we can ensure our oceans remain vibrant for generations to come.
Connecting You with Real Food
As someone who grew up enjoying wild-caught seafood, I’ve always believed in its superior taste and nutritional value. The seafood you eat should be real, fresh, and full of flavor. Today, I’m bringing that experience to you by providing the finest wild-caught seafood from Alaska, delivered right to your door. It’s more than just seafood—it’s a connection to the traditions and practices that have kept our waters healthy and our food pure for generations.
